Impairments like cleft lip/palate, obstetric fistula and cataract can be corrected with a simple surgery. But many people living in poverty cannot afford to seek treatment, leaving them with debilitating conditions that limit their educational and economic opportunities. Funds raised through Kupona enable CCBRT to waive or subsidize fees for treatment, ensuring those unable to pay are still able to access the care they need.
CCBRT has built significant expertise over its 21-year history, which they share with other providers in order strengthen the wider healthcare system. With our support, CCBRT trains healthcare providers, distributes equipment and supports quality services at partner facilities so that people across the country can access treatment closer to home.
With nearly one woman dying every hour from birth-related complications, and 20 more developing an injury, infection, or life changing impairment, Tanzania has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. We work in close partnership with CCBRT to overcome these odds by improving the quality of healthcare available to expectant mothers and their newborns.
We train healthcare workers, distribute life saving equipment, and make improvements to operating rooms and labor wards in existing facilities. In parallel, we are building a new Maternity and Newborn Hospital, a 200 bed referral facility built to serve women with high risk pregnancies and sick newborns.
Together, we can change the face of healthcare in Tanzania, and give every mother the chance to meet her newborn child.
